There’s something special about taking senior portraits in a place that holds so many memories. When Millan said she wanted to have her session on her family’s land, I knew it would be meaningful—not just for her, but for her whole family. A few years ago, I photographed one of her brother’s senior sessions, so getting to do the same for Millan was an honor!
We started her session in a patch of small daffodils on the side of the dirt road. Their soft yellow blooms added such a delicate touch to her portraits, and the way the afternoon light hit them was just perfect. From there, we made our way to the pond, where the calm water and open space made for a beautiful, peaceful setting. Millan was so natural in front of the camera and her easygoing personality shined through in every shot.
Next, we headed to an old building that is usually surrounded by cotton, though this time of year, the fields were bare. Even without the cotton, the rustic charm of the building gave us the perfect backdrop for some classic portraits. Millan’s outfit choices complemented each setting so well, and I loved how effortlessly she moved from one spot to the next.
We ended the session in the pecan orchard, where rows of trees stretched out in perfect symmetry. There’s something timeless about orchards—they have a way of making any photo feel both grand and intimate at the same time. It was the perfect way to wrap up her session, surrounded by the land she’s grown up on.
Millan, thank you for choosing me to capture this special season in your life! It was such a joy to spend the afternoon with you, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you accomplish in the years ahead.
