Last weekend, I had the absolute honor of photographing the sweetest proposal for Whitt and Karleigh! It all started last month when Whitt’s mom, Renee, reached out to check my availability. From there, the planning began. Everything seemed to be lining up perfectly… until the weather had other ideas.
Early that week, the forecast showed some rain, but nothing too alarming. By Saturday afternoon, it was pouring at my house. The skies turned nearly black and the rain was coming down so hard that I could barely see the trees through our windows. About 90 minutes before I was supposed to meet Whitt, lightning struck our front yard. I was nervously refreshing the radar, hoping Valley Grande (about 20 minutes away) was being spared the same weather chaos.
I was concerned that the pasture might be a little soggy, but I threw on my rain boots and jacket and was ready to go! Thankfully, when I arrived, the skies were calmer. Whitt handed me the keys to their farm truck so I wouldn’t risk getting stuck in the mud. We drove out to the spot he had picked under a charming A-frame arch and walked through the plan one last time. Whitt waited nervously for his future bride to arrive.
Renee was bringing Karleigh under the pretense of taking family photos. But when they pulled up to the pasture, Karleigh saw Whitt standing alone under the arch. Renee told her she’d be getting out solo. Karleigh walked over, still piecing it all together, and then Whitt dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. I had been crouching behind a nearby bush and popped out just in time to capture the joy and emotion of that moment. It was muggy and hot, but worth every drop of sweat.
Whitt, thank you for trusting me to capture such a big chapter of your story. And Karleigh, knowing you’ve followed my work and were excited to have me there means the world! I’m so thrilled for y’all and can’t wait to see where this journey leads!
