Every couple has a unique story and I love hearing them when I meet couples for the first time. I wanted to share our story in this 7-part series to help you get to know me and Weston a little better. I hope you enjoy reading our story from the moment we met until now!
Part 2: Best Friend to Boyfriend
Part 7: Cold Hands, Coffee, and Cookie Cake
My senior year of high school, I joined Facebook. Back when Facebook first started, you could join different school groups that showed all the people that went to your school. Toward the end of the summer when I had finalized all my college plans, I joined a group for people that were going to University of Mobile the following semester. I requested to be friends with at least two dozen people and upon their acceptance, I sent them a message. I didn’t know anyone going to University of Mobile and I wanted to try to meet people that I might have classes with or that might live in my dorm. I made a bunch of friends that way – guys and girls – and we messaged each other for weeks before school started. A few of those friends actually became best friends and were in my wedding!
The last week of July, I sent a friend request to a guy named Weston Mason and didn’t think twice about it. Around 9 PM, I saw that he had accepted my request and I sent him a message. I remember talking about school and how I was watching Psych as we were chatting. He was pretty interesting, so we kept talking. Before we knew it, it was 5:00 am. We were both exhausted, but didn’t want to stop talking. Around 7:00 am, we finally agreed that we needed to go to sleep. When I woke up a few hours later, I saw a text from him and we picked up right where we left off.
It has been almost 10 years since that day and he is the only person in this world that I have talked to every single day since the day we met.
We officially met in person on move-in day our freshman year of college. When people ask us how we met, that’s the part that I tell them. I leave out the meeting online part simply because it’s a little more complicated than “we met on Facebook.” We technically did meet on move-in day. My new roommate (who I had also just met) and I went to each of the dorms to meet people. Drinks and snacks were everywhere and when we left the other girl’s dorm, I grabbed a Red Bull. I drank most of it on the way to Weston’s room and it was starting to kick in. With all my first-day-of-school jitters and no food in my system, I was a little sensitive to the Red Bull. I started popping the can and Weston got so annoyed he snatched it out of my hand and threw it away haha (and now I get to annoy him for the rest of our lives!). We hung out with Weston and his roommate for a little while longer until we decided to explore the campus.
Even though I wasn’t a professional photographer at this point, I took SO MANY pictures. I made Weston take a picture with me before we left and told him we were going to be best friends. I’m so glad I did because that’s the day I met my future husband and I have a photo of us to remember it forever. We didn’t start dating until a month later, which I’m going to talk about in Part 2: Best Friend to Boyfriend next week!
