Wedding at The Whippoorwill Venue

Posted in: Weddings

Kristen and Dakota’s wedding day at The Whippoorwill Venue will be one to remember for so many reasons. Saturday’s severe storms resulted in over a dozen tornadoes touching down all over Alabama. Thankfully, the weather cleared up for us just in time, and we only experienced a brief sprinkle after the ceremony—a touch of good luck for the newlyweds! The Whippoorwill Venue’s versatile setup provided peace of mind for everyone, with its covered ceremony space and indoor reception area ready to handle any weather scenario.

In keeping with tradition, Kristen and Dakota chose not to do a first look; however, they shared a special first touch instead. For those unfamiliar with the concept, this means they didn’t see each other before the wedding but stood back-to-back with a column between them, holding hands and sharing a private moment. They exchanged heartfelt vows during this time and it was a beautiful way for them to connect before the ceremony. Kristen admitted to feeling a wave of nervousness right after putting on her wedding gown, but just holding Dakota’s hand and hearing his voice helped to calm her nerves.

Earlier in the day, the guys shot skeet over the pond before they started getting ready. I was taking detail photos nearby and nearly jumped out of my skin every time they took a shot. Their laughter and camaraderie set a lively, joyful tone for the morning, and I was impressed with their accuracy.

One of the standout features of the day was Kristen’s grandfather’s vintage Chevy, which made for some stunning portraits. It added a unique, sentimental touch to the photos, and I loved seeing how it reflected their family’s history and love for tradition.

Kristen and Dakota, thank you so much for choosing me as your wedding and engagement photographer. It was an honor to capture these precious moments for you and your families. I’ll always remember the joy and love that filled your day, and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and love! I hope you enjoy your much-needed relaxation and stunning mountain views on your honeymoon!
