Bridal Session at The Hay Barn

Posted in: Bridals, For Brides

The sun was shining brightly when we arrived at The Hay Barn for Maaike’s bridal session. She loved the twinkle lights inside, so we started her bridal portraits there. I tried to open the doors so I could back up, but the wind was so strong and flung them shut. I knew right then that the wind would make the session extra challenging, but that’s what makes photography so exciting. You never know what you’re going to get and sometimes you just have to think outside of the box.

Once we got outside, the wind was even worse. We had some trouble keeping Maaike’s cathedral length veil and train of her dress in place. We ended up getting creative and using her mom’s and aunt’s cell phones as makeshift veil and train weights. It might sound unconventional, but it did the trick and allowed us to capture stunning shots of the bride and her beautiful dress!

Despite the wind, the light was absolutely gorgeous. As I was snapping away in the tall golden grass, there was a moment where I looked at the back of my camera and it literally took my breath away. Maaike looked so stunning, the photo was perfectly exposed, and the light gave her an angelic glow!

We also made sure to take tons of photos with the antique chair. There’s just something so classic and timeless about bridal portraits in an antique chair, wouldn’t you say?

Maaike, thank you so much for choosing to add a bridal session! I had so much fun spending time with you, your mom, and your aunt and capturing these gorgeous images! They will forever be among my favorite bridal portraits. Not just because you look stunning in every single one, but also because you’re family. I’m so glad we can finally show these off because it was the longest month not being able to share them with anyone!
