Wedding at The Hay Barn

Over the years, I have seen many couples tie the knot in various beautiful venues. However, there is something about The Hay Barn that makes it stand out from the rest. Last year, Hunter proposed to Maaike at this very place while taking pictures with his family. Little did they know, this would be the same venue where they would exchange their vows and become husband and wife.

As the bride’s second cousin, I was thrilled to be their wedding photographer. Not only did I get to photograph such a beautiful and loving couple, but I also got to enjoy their wedding with my family. It was a treat for my kids to watch me in wedding photographer mode for the first time and for my husband, parents, and brother to see how much my skills have progressed over the years.

Before the ceremony, Maaike and Hunter opted to do a first look. It was a beautiful moment filled with tears of joy and anticipation for what was to come. Maaike also did a first look with each of her parents, bridesmaids, and the groomsmen. Since Maaike wanted to do a first look with her mom, both of Maaike’s aunts helped her get into her wedding gown. It was evident that everyone was excited about the big day.

One of the unique aspects of the wedding was the bride’s garter. She wore her grandmother’s garter, which was worn at her wedding 50 years ago. Her grandmother even put the garter on Maaike’s leg for her! It was a beautiful and sentimental touch, and it made the day even more special. The Bible that the ring bearer was to use during the ceremony belonged to the bride’s grandfather, and the fabric tied around it was from her mother’s veil. What a perfect way to incorporate family heirlooms into the wedding!

To add the cherry on top of a perfect wedding day, the newlyweds did a sparkler exit with their guests. Immediately following, they surprised them with fireworks!
