Section, Alabama Engagement Session

Posted in: Engagements/Couples

It might sound silly, but I have a favorite kind of sunlight. Fellow photographers might think my favorite sunlight is that golden hour right before sunset. While I do love that gorgeous light, my absolute favorite is that super bright sunlight with tons of white clouds that serve as a natural diffuser to create a dreamy soft light.

The forecast for Maaike and Hunter’s engagement session in Section, Alabama was 60 percent chance of rain for most of the week. Based on the forecast, I would have guessed it would be an overcast day at best if the rain held off for us. Since I had a 3 1/2 hour drive (one way) for their session, I watched the weather like a hawk all week. I prayed for the rain to hold off every time I checked my weather app. On Saturday morning, it was still showing 40 percent chance of rain starting at their session time. Thankfully, I was able to leave earlier than planned and Maaike’s hair and makeup artist was able to start earlier than planned, so we beat the rain! It rained for a while on my way home, but there was not one drop during their session.

This particular session was extra special because Maaike is my second cousin! Most of the weddings and engagement sessions I do are strangers or bridesmaids/siblings from past weddings. It has been a few years since I photographed a family member’s wedding, but I’m so excited!

Maaike and Hunter, thank you so much for choosing me to document this season of your lives. And thank you for trusting me every time I asked you to walk in the weeds or do something that felt silly! Everything was absolutely perfect for your fall engagement session and I am so proud of how these turned out. I am already excited for your bridal portraits and your wedding next year!

I love these pictures. The clothing selections, the poses, and the background views. Of course my granddaughter is always beautiful and Hunter is so cute too. But the love that’s seen between these two makes my heart beat faster than normal. Yes I’m biased but the pictures are beautiful. Can’t wait for the wedding pictures.
