Elle’s senior session is one I have been excited to share, especially because it captured so much of her personality and style. She’s one of my spokesmodels this year and photographing each member of the team is always something I look forward to. Her original session date was rained out, but I’ve learned not to be disappointed when that happens—reschedule days always seem to bring the prettiest sunlight and this one absolutely delivered.
We met at the Vaughan-Smitherman Museum in downtown Selma, where the trees out front were showing off the most vibrant red leaves. They practically glowed in the sunshine and created the perfect fall backdrop. Even though it was chilly, Elle came with a clear vision for her portraits and was completely committed to wearing her dress with bare feet. One moment that stood out to me was when she recreated a childhood photo taken on one of the iron benches at the museum. Watching her sit in that same spot as a senior added such a sweet touch to the session.
After we finished at the museum (and after I stopped telling myself I’d take “just one more”), we drove down the street to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for her final outfit. I had one specific portrait planned, but the light was sneaking through the trees across the street and casting a harsh shadow right where I needed Elle to stand. Thankfully, her mom was more than willing to hold up my changing tent to block the light long enough to get the shot. That little bit of teamwork made all the difference. The light softened beautifully and we ended the session with so many favorites that narrowing them down for this post was almost impossible.
Elle, thank you so much for being part of my spokesmodel team this year and for choosing me to photograph your senior portraits! Your creativity, vision, and willingness to embrace the moment made your session such a joy and I’m grateful to be part of your senior year.
