Senior Session in Historic Downtown Selma

Posted in: Seniors

Walt’s senior session was full of unexpected twists, but that’s part of what made it so memorable. His original date had been set for months, but an incoming storm forced us to choose between keeping the Sunday afternoon session or moving up to early Saturday morning. His mom, Julie, wisely chose the earlier option and we planned to meet at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.

What we didn’t quite plan for was event timing. His session happened to fall on the weekend of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which brings thousands of extra visitors into our small town each year. I expected a little more traffic than usual, but I did not expect a parade downtown at the exact time we were supposed to start photos! Between the road closures, barricades, and crowds, it turned into a bit of an adventure just getting there.

After some creative navigating, we managed to find parking about a block away from the library and made our way over. The library was an important stop for Walt’s session because he spent so much time there growing up. He loves reading, so it felt fitting to include a place that played such a big role in his childhood.

With the crowd getting larger by the minute, we decided it would be best to move the rest of the session to another local treasure, the Vaughan-Smitherman Museum. The quieter setting gave us plenty of space to finish Walt’s portraits and it was the perfect backdrop to wrap up the morning. We even made sure to get a few family photos at the end of the session!

Walt, thank you for being flexible with all the unexpected twists and turns that morning brought! I’m so glad we were able to capture this season for you and your family. I wish you all the best as you move on to this next stage in your life.
