Talladega Wedding

If I had to use one word to sum up Brittni and John’s wedding day at River Rest Weddings in Talladega, that word would be sentimental. Many of their wedding details held a history so sweet to them. Brittni’s dad wore the same dress shoes 40 years ago for his own wedding and also at all three of his daughters’ weddings, with Brittni’s wedding being the last time he plans to wear them. A hand-crocheted pouch was tied around Brittni’s wrist during the ceremony. Inside that pouch was a handkerchief that once belonged to Brittni’s great grandmother. That same handkerchief was also worn by each of Brittni’s sisters for their weddings. As a tribute to John’s late mother, a sign that read, “We know you’d be here today if heaven weren’t so far away.” sat in the first seat of the ceremony along with a corsage and a plant.

As a wedding photographer, I know that most couples will choose to incorporate sentimental details in their wedding day. I have learned to expect that and seek them out for photographs. What I don’t always expect is for people to cry. Brittni got choked up saying her vows to John. She also started crying during her first dance with her dad. Then I look over at her mom crying on one side of the room and her sister crying on the other. I was already holding back tears and then it came time for the mother-son dance. John had one of his sisters fill in for this dance and the song lyrics were so sweet that I definitely started tearing up.

Brittni and John, thank you so much for trusting this {no longer} stranger from the internet to photograph your engagement session and wedding day! You had a beautiful lakeside wedding day and so many happy memories to cherish for the rest of your lives. I hope y’all have a fun and relaxing Florida honeymoon this summer!
